When I was a little girl, the only big cats I saw where at the Manila Zoo. Of course, at age 8, I was excited to see the lions in their own huge enclosures complete with a wading pond. As I grew older, I felt sorry for these magnificent cats who must have felt being imprisoned in seclusion perpetua...

So it was really a different experience to see these cats in a natural environment.... at the Masai Mara in Kenya, East Africa. :D

Cat Bath

First "published" on 27 Sept 2005 at http://kulasisi.blogs.friendster.com/miamanila/

Gave SassCat a bath this morning. It was his first ever.... Boy, did he put up a struggle. But if he was determined to escape, Ate Gina (Sass's yaya) and I were even more determined to "suds" him up.
Ever since SassCat graduated from kittenhood to young tom, he has been pestering us to let him out in the dead of night so he can go visit his lady loves. So now, Ate Gina throws him out of the apartment every evening (whether he likes it or not) and does not let him in until early morning.
Owing to his nocturnal prowlings, SassCat lately has been looking more and more bedraggled. This morning, he slunk in, motor grease on one ear, soot on his nose, and mud on his paws. And ever since he also lost his collar one night, he now looks like your regular trashcan-tossing alley cat.
So, we decided, bath time. He should be grateful we heated water for him. (And to think I don't even take hot showers!). From tip of tail to tip of nose, we slathered on the Herbs and Oats Shampoo. We weren't able to rinse his belly that well since he was struggling so mightily. He had enough sense not to scratch or bite us. Hmp!
Next to go into the wash tub was HeyCat, SassCat's younger sidekick and an almost carbon copy save for a kinked tail. HeyCat, being a former starving "street kitten," is grateful for any attention (and food!) so he meekly (if that is at all possible for a cat) submitted to the indignity of being given a bath.
They now both look like a couple of aristocats! Hmmmm... I wonder how long they'll stay that way...
